She looked up at him and smiled. Her eyes were unreadable behind the large sunglasses. “Thanks for coming. Talley, you made me a promise before I went back into that tunnel.” She shivered slightly; as if just by saying the word ‘tunnel’ she still felt the pain of what she’d gone through.

“I didn’t forget, Geena. How much time do we have?”

“They’ve recalled me to Langley. I leave in a week.”

“I have five days.”

They stared at each other, and he wished he could see her eyes, to see what messages she was sending him. How bad it was. He needn’t have worried.

“Talley, I have a room. It’s on the fifteenth floor, a good view across the Tigris. You want to take a look?”

The Tigris?

“Excuse me?”

She took off her sunglasses, and her eyes danced with anticipation. “I didn’t mean the fucking river. Jesus Christ! You’ve seen my body before, as I recall. I was wondering about a reprise.”

“A reprise?”

“That’s what I said, like a five-day reprise. Oh, for God’s sake, do you want to ravish my body? Talley, I’ve been dreaming about you screwing me for weeks. It’s the one thing that kept me sane while I was recovering.”

“Uh, sure, but are you okay? I mean, you were badly hurt, during that last…”

“Crawl through the tunnel?”

“Yes.”

“It’s still with me, the memories. Not as bad as it was, but it’s still lodged in my brain. Still hurts, worse than the cuts and grazes.”

“How can I help?”

Her smile became lascivious. “I already told you. Screw me, Talley. Screw my brains out, so when I go back, my memories are all good.”

He worked hard to keep his expression neutral. “Happy to oblige, Ma’am.”

She got out of the lounger. “Then what are we waiting for. Let’s go drive away the demons.”

He followed her into the hotel; conscious it was more than her demons he was driving away. He’d had a few of his own and was satisfied he’d overcome the worse of them, even if he’d crossed a bitter, bloody Rubicon in the process. It made him even more determined to do the same for her. It wasn’t often you could merge your good intentions with pure pleasure, but this was going to be one of those rare times. He entered the elevator after her, admiring the swell of her hips, her long, slim legs, and the way she walked with a slight, erotic sway.

Pure pleasure.
