Chapter 12

Della Point of View

So here were are, 30 lovely women and a man circling around the table with papers and pens dispersed all over. We only discussed one thing, a wedding. It’s the wedding of Daniel Adams and Della Dotson.

We were arguing about the fireworks, flowers and everything.

I looked at myself in the mirror, wearing the wedding gown.

“You are so beautiful.” My fiancé exclaimed.

We let him out of the room, as he is not supposed to see the gown, or else, I am not marrying him.

I started to feel bad because I was supposed to surprise him with that dress. I changed my outfit and paid a visit to my grandma. I was so scared of losing my identity for loving him. I don’t want anyone to own me, and that is taunting me.

“Granma, what if I was wrong about getting married to him?”

“What if you were right?” I turned around to see my mom.

“So, come on dear, tell me what’s bothering you.”

“I’m just terrified. What if I lost my self for being his better half?”

“And, what’s wrong with that?” She questioned me.

I also do not know the answer.

“Maybe I want something more. I want to be myself, not just his wife.”

“What if you can be both?”

And then, I realized that I was just so anxious. “You are right. I can be both Della and Daniel’s wife.” I told her, smiling.

Later that evening, I, with ten other women, made a decision.  We hoped and prayed that these decisions were the right ones.
